Bob Denver played the title role on the goofy 1960s TV sitcom ‘Gilligan's Island’ and became a cult TV personality. He was mostly loved by children who appreciated his gesture, look and body language. When the show was telecast, he was panned by the critics initially at the premier show (1964) and the show was cancelled in 1967. But when the when it ran for many re-runs, Denver became a cult figure in the TV industry.
The actor was a born artist. He came to the acting field by chance. Earlier, he was a teacher in an elementary school in California. While he was a teacher in the school, he shot for the TV series ‘The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis’ and took part in the show since 1959-1963. Cashing on his popularity as ‘Goofy’ for ‘Gilligan's Island’, he later appeared in two TV serials ‘The Good Guys’(1968-70) and ‘Dusty's Trail’. Later on, he tried in appearing in various movies, but he was offered every time a small role. Some of the popular films where his screen presence was felt include ‘Take Her, She's Mine’, ‘High School U.S.A.’ (a TV movie) and his first debut movie named ‘A Private's Affair’ etc. The actor is still alive in the mind of audiences for his role of Gilligan, which was indeed his character’s first name. It is noteworthy that the three seasons of "Gilligan's Island” was made for TV movie later since it premiered on September 1964. The actor later did some small stint appearances on TV, but his popularity in the popular sitcom made him an iconic figure in television.
