Yamuna is an Indian actress who has works primarily in Telugu films and TV series. She was born with name Prema, but director Balachander changed her name to the Yamuna. She has starred in various movies. She rose to fame after she played a role in the film Mouna Poratam (1989). It was an award-winning film based on the real-life events of Sabita Badhei. This movie attained enormous media coverage. She portrayed the character of a woman who is betrayed by a government officer. She fights for her marital rights to gain a marital status, saving her child from the label of an illegitimate child. Later, in 1991, she played the role of the heroine opposite Vinod Kumar in an award-winning movie Mamagaru. In the movie Puttinti Pattu Cheera (1990), she played the role of an unfortunate woman who was harassed by her in-laws constantly.
