1. Girija Oak

Born in the year 1987, Girija Oak has worked in Marathi films as well as in television. She also had a brief stint with Hindi films. Her acting in Shor in the City and Taare Zameen Par gained her recognition. Marathi actor Girish Oak is the father of Girija Oak. Her mother is a pharmacist. Having pursued a business management degree she later got associated with a theater workshop and tested waters in commercials. Girija entered the Marathi film industry with the 2010 flick Manini. 


On her personal front, Girija is wedded to producer Suhrud Godbole. This couple is blessed with a boy. When she was 15 Girija entered the silver screen. Goshta Choti Dongraevadhi, Manini, Gulmohar, and Adgule Madgule are some of the Marathi flicks in which Girija had worked. IME Motion Pictures is the production venture of Mr. Suhrud Godbole. It is having its roots both in Mumbai and Pune. Chintoo, Pune 52 and Champions are some of the movies produced by this production house. 


Girija had tried her luck in a Marathi serial and she enacted the role of Manu in the serial Lajja. She became a notable personality by working in this serial. She did the role of a youngster who gets to see the dangerous side of cities. Her onscreen chemistry with Piyush Ranade in the serial was very much appreciated. The show became a roaring success in Zee Marathi television network. She has also worked on a natak called Don Special. She possesses good dancing talent and she worked in Zee Marathi Eka Peksha Ek Apsara Ali during the year 2011. Girija is pursuing MBA through distance education.

2. Amruta Subhash


Amruta-Subhash.jpg For Marathi actress Amruta Subhash it was relatively easier to become an accomplished actress, coming as she does from a family of actors her mother Jyoti Subhash being a well-known actress, and her mentor. However, in the true Marathi tradition, she entered acting through the medium of theatre, having graduated from the National School of Drama, New Delhi. Her return to Maharashtra saw her participating in several plays, most noteworthy out of which was her portrayal of the main character in “Tee Fulrani”, based on the theme of “My Fair Lady and “Pygmalion”. Having made her mark on the stage, she then moved into Marathi cinema as well as Television in 2004.Her debut film was “Shwaas” where she portrayed a very sensitive role, and the film itself was adjudged as the Best Feature Film at the 51st National Film Awards. Having already been acclaimed as a sensitive actress, her next role in the Hindi film “Chausar”, directed by SagarSarhadi (of “Bazaar” fame) brought her further appreciation from critics, paving the way for her to enact similar roles in TV serials too, including Gulzar’s “Nirmala”. In fact, in 2004 itself shehad received the Best Actress award for her role in the TV show “Awaghachi Sansaar” featured on Zee Gaurav. She has been acknowledged as one of the most sensitive female artistes and she herself also enjoys her portrayal of roles of women fighting back for their rights.Her list of awards have been quite impressive, with her receiving the V. Shantaram Award for her role in the film “Savalee”, and the National Award in 2013 for Best Supporting Actress for the Marathi film “Astu”. To cap it all, for her film “Killa” she was the recipient of the Crystal Bear for the best film in the Generation Kplus section at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. But any mention of Amruta without referring to her other achievements would be incomplete. She is trained in both classical singing and Bharata Natyam. In fact, she has featured as a playback singer in films like “Haapus”and “Ajintha” and has also done the background score for “Nital” and “Teen Bahene”.

3. Kishori Shahane

Kishori Shahane is a renowned folk and classical dancer and a Marathi film actress from India. She was married to Hindi film director, Deepak Balraj Vij. Besides acting, Kishori is also the producer who was part of the film about Sai Baba’s life. 

 

She studied at Mithibai College in Vile Parle, Mumbai where she was crowned as the Miss Mithibai College in 1990. She initiated her career into Marathi films and gained her popularity through the 1991 blockbuster film, Maherchi Sadi and Wajva Re Wajva. She received praises and recognitions after doing stage plays like the Hindi play, Aadhe Adhure and the Marathi play, Moruchi Mauchi. 

 

Kishori also appeared in the blockbuster films, Ek Daav Dhobi Pachad and also in Navra Majha Navsacha. She also appeared in the Bollywood Hindi film, Pyaar Mein Twist under the direction of Karan Kapoor in 2005.  Subsequently, Kishori was also seen in the Bollywood crime thriller film, Red: The Dark Side by Vikram Bhatt. 

 

Kishori’s husband is a Hindi director who recognized her acting ability. They worked together in films like Hafta Band in 1991, Bomb Blast and few more films. During the set of Hafta Band, the two became closer and eventually got married. Later, she entered the Hindi television serials and worked consistently in the Hindi and Marathi films. She got more fame with her performance in the television serial, Ghar Ek Mandir, Sindoor and the Indian version of Yo Soy Betty, La Fea, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin on Sony TV. Kishori became a regular face in the television industry and many of her serials were aired on various Indian TV channels. 

 

Kishori also performed her dancing skills in India and abroad. She also made her music video entitled, Saavan for Venus. After many years, she joined the Mrs. Gladrags Beauty Pageant and became a runner-up in year 2003. As a producer and director, Kishori’s Mohatyachi Renuka got the Best Editing Award in Maharashtra State Award in 2007. She did the Hindi spiritual film, Malik Ek with Jackie Shroff in the main role. 

 

Kishori worked in over 40 Marathi films like Ek Daaw Dhobi Pacchad, Wajawa Re Wajawa, Atmavishwas, Ekulati Ek, Narbachi Wadi and more. She also did Hindi films like Shirdi Sai Baba, Pyar Ka Devta, Mumbai Godfather, Milenge Milenge, We R Friends, Superstar and more. 

She also did few television serials. She appeared in the Balaji Telefilms’, Kohi Apna Sa on Zee TV. She was also roped in to play as the mother of Vedika and Nihariks in the Hindi serial, Sindoor Tere Naam Ka. She was also seen in television serials like Kabhie To Nazar Milao on Sony TV, Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli on Zee TV, Do Dil Ek Jaan on Life OK and more. She also joined the Indian dance television series, Saas V/S Bahu on Sahara One.

She did many TV serials like Sindoor, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi, and Ghar Ek Mandir. After getting married to Deepak, they both did a movie name Shirdi Sai Baba. The movie was a great success. Later, Kishori stated her career as a filmmaker and producer. In 2007, she even won the Maharastra State Award for the movie Mohatyachi Renuka for best editing. Kishori produced and directed the movie. Later, she made another movie with her husband name Malik Ek, starring Jackie Shroff. The movie didn’t do well at the Box-Office.

Vandana Gupte is a legendary Marathi actress who can also be seen in Hindi TV serials. She has done numerous Marathi plays and is a popular theatre personality. She is a well known actress in Marathi cinema. She made her debut with Marathi movie Lapandav (1993), in which she portrayed the role of a lawyer.
