He is the person who initiated the trend of Mahaepisodes in the television industry. He did his Bachelor of Arts degree from Lucknow University and soon began his career with directing commercials for different brands. He then worked as a writer for numerous production houses. He worked with famous production houses like Zee Telefilms where he was the assistant Vice-president. In 2007, when Colors was launched, he was a member of the start-up team. Later he launched his own production house by the name of Nautanki Films Pvt Ltd. He also joined Imagine Tv as Head of fiction programme.

His famous works on tv, both as a writer and director include Madhubala-Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and Do Dil Ek Jaan. His latest work is Rangrasia which is telecast on Colors under his own banner. It is a love story of a girl who falls in love with an army officer who is immune to her emotions. Lately, there had been rumours of Saurabh Tewari and Abhinav Shukla splitting. But due to the efforts of the Rangrasia lead actress Sanaya Irani, things got settled and the show is proceeding well. As of now, Saurabh Tewari is rumoured to date his Do Dil Ek Jaan’s actress Shilpa Shinde.
