Jayshree Arora is an Paridhi achievers award (28th jan 2011) winning actress, known for her roles in Yahaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli as Saraswati Devi Prasad, Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke as Kabir's Grandmother, Hum Log as Bhagwanti, Gora (Mini TV Series) as Anandamoyi, Drona (2008), Chakde! India as Kabir's mother, Jai Vikraanta (as Joyshree Arora), Zid, Police Public, and Mujrim (as Joy Shree Arora).

 

In her childhood, Joyoshree couldn't copy heroins, but she liked to mimic Kishore Kumar & Shammi Kapoor. Since the age of 9, she was doing theatre. She didn't think that this will become her career, and she was satisfied in her theatre activity. At the age of 12, a film producer- director talked to her dad and asked him to let her work in films, to which he replied stating let her complete the studies, and then he will think about it. She used to like dance, theater, acting, but she had no intention of acting in TV. Apart from this, she learnt Katthak Ravendra & Manipuri dance. She got a TV act in 1980 by an coincidence. 7th July 1984 was a special day for her, because she appeared in India's first family TV show Hum Log. She remembers that when she was at Radio Kashmir at Jammu, she asked to attend an audition for this project. Because of the success of Hum Log, she got calls for for auditions of hindi films too.

 

She got to travel to Delhi, Mumbai, Bhuvaneshvar, Kolkata to work in several projects. She admits that just like every other actor, she has faced tough times, but she fought the challenges, and she thinks that makes her a fighter. She has been a hard worker, she used to shoot for 12-13 hours a day. When she was working for Nanhi Pari, she has worked for 18 hours per day for continuous 59 days, without going home.

 

Joyoshree believes in god, her friends see her as an influential personality because of her positivity. She is in her mid-50s, but she follows a routine of getting up in the early morning, doing yoga, pranayam (she doesn't go to gym though), preparing and having tea, then teaching her students, gardening, cooking, and in her spare time, she likes to be close to nature, do poetry, do occasional writing, read, and stay busy in creative activities. She believes that god has given her birth as a human being, and she should utilise that privilege to do good deeds every day. When she looks back, she feels that she was able to do whatever she desired, but she is not yet satisfied, and wants to work even more and even better. Her message for her fans is, dream big, live them, be committed, be loyal, be sincere, sky is the limit.

2. Manohar Singh

Born on 1938, Manohar Singh was an illustrious theatre and movie actor. He had worked in several Hindi movies. He also tasted success in theatre histrionics and playwright. His contribution to the theater was rewarded during the year 1982 when he garnered the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his good acting. Party, Rudali, Dikhsha , Lamhe, Chandni , Tughlaq,Daddy, Begum Barve and Himmat Mai are some of his outstanding works as a theater personality. 


Hailing from a tiny village Kwara situated close to Shimla, Manohar kickstarted his career in state government’s drama department. The year 1971 saw him have his graduation from NSD. Later he endeavored into directing plays. The 1971 venture Qatil Ki Aawas was his entry into play direction. The year 1976 was a milestone in his career since he turned out to be NSD Repertory Company’s second chief. He sustained in that post upto 1988. The project, Tughlaq remains still etched in the hearts of his fans. His guru Ebrahim Alkazi directed this flick. He enacted the role of Tughlaq in this memorable play. 


Manohar got himself associated with Delhi Theater in the end of 80s, after quitting NSD. The Bollywood flick Kissa Kursi Ka was not shown in theatres then. This is a political spoof and had Shabani Azmi, Utpal Dutt, Raj Babbar, Manohar Singh and Rehana Sultan in main roles. This was a very controversial film of that time. 


Ram, which is the production venture of the yearly Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra has Manohar’s voice-over. His voice was his strength to the venture. Manohar also tested waters in television serials such as Pal Chhin and Dard. These serials were successful. He breathed his last on 14, November 2002. He left his legacy since NSD started an award in his name. It is named as Manohar Singh Smriti Puruskar. This award is given to a youth graduate of NSD. The graduate should be below 50 to earn this award.
