Prasanna Vishwanathan is a Singer, Songwriter, Dhrupad practitioner and performer in India and abroad under the discipleship of the Dhrupad Maestro Pt. Uday Bhawalkar. He resides in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He went to Modern English School, in Mumbai, in 2002. He has a Diploma in Hindustani Classical Vocal (Shastriya Gayan) from the University of Mumbai and ranked first for his performances in his 2004 class. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Jai Hind College, affiliated with the University of Mumbai in 2007-08. He has been a senior scholar performer at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, highly graded by the gurus of the academy since 2015.
He has also gained his education from Namdhari Sikh Sangat Southall UK, SOAS University South Asian Music Forum UK, Residence of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Sahab, Kolkata, Nehru Centre Mumbai, Shri Ramakrishna Mission Asansol, Temple of Fine Arts, Coimbatore, GKNM Auditorium, Coimbatore, Dev Nandan Udhayaker Yuva Sangeet Mahotsava, Bangalore, Ustad Alla Rakha Sangeet Sammelan Punjab, Smaran 2016 Bhopal Dhrupad Sansthan, Bhakti Utsav 2018 New Delhi, Vorstadtheatre Tubingen Germany, and Hall of Brestilav Bakala Brno Czech Republic.
He has been a part of the Citi-NCPA Guru Initiative with the National Centre of Performing Arts under his Guru Pt. Uday Bhawalkar. He assisted his guru in many workshops and concerts at the Salzburg Music Festival Austria 2015 and Israel 2018. He has given solo Dhrupad performances and workshops in the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Czech Republic. He has also performed with Shri Sagar Morankar. He has been honoured with many awards, which include the Young Achievers Award by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis and the second prize in the Fusion Instrumental Malhar Festival at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.
He taught at many Dhrupad workshops at Jas Musicals, London 2018-19, Valley School, Bangalore, since 2015, Spic Macay workshops since 2015, and Dhrupad Music Society as Assistant Teacher since 2017. He has worked on many International and Indian TV and film projects, which include Motorcycle Karma of National Geographic, The Anupam Kher Show title and music, World Kabaddi League theme song, and Rishtey channel identity music. He sang and was a part of the background scores of the movies Delhi Belly Click to look into! >> Read More... , Raees, Talaash, and Ekees Topon Ki Salaami. He has also worked as a Composer in the short films Valmiki Ki Bandook, A Better Bargain, Bawdi, Arivu, Samapti: Love in Ashes, and The Case.
