Hansel vs Gretel – Movie Review
Summary:
The movie Hansel vs Gretel happens to be a sequel to the 2013 movie Hansel & Gretel. Although the present flick happens to be a sequel to the previous one, the movie is understood by the audience at ease. But, if one has watched the sequel to the movie, the movie could be easily made out just as the previous one.
Plot:
The movie is about Hansel setting on a journey to kill the witches. As he begins his journey, his sister Gretel handles the Gingerbread Bakery. Then, a revelation comes as a bolt from the blue that Hansel and Gretel are not in good terms with each other. Gretel stays in the town with the family and runs the bakery which is a very popular one. Gretel wants Hansel to be in town, with their grandma. But, there are different plans for Hansel. Hansel suspects that a group of witches may be the reason behind one of his friend missing. Also, Hansel has suspicions that the witches may be planning to corner him and his sister. There comes a twist in the movie when it is finally revealed that Gretel herself has been experimenting with witchcraft.
Analysis: Halfway through the movie, there is a revelation that Gretel herself is a witch. This is not a big surprise to the audience, as the title itself leaks out the information that Gretel is a witch. The movie Hansel VS Gretel is a fine addition to the Asylum Movie Makers list of movies. It cannot be said that the movie is up to the expectation. But still, there are scenes that please the audience. The music composition is a great credit to the movie. Still, there are discrepancies in the movie that could have been set right with a good screenplay. If one has not watched the previous version of Hansel & Gretel, the sequel would trigger in the audience to watch the original version. The climax in the sequel is not very convincing, and nobody would be bothered to see another sequel to the movie.
Star Performances: Brent Lydic, who did the previous movie, has appeared again in the movie. The actor is pleasing with his screen presence as a witch hunter. The role of Gretel is done by Lili Baross, who is a new character thrust into the movie. In the previous movie, Stephanie Greco did the role of Gretel. Although her appearance in the movie is new she has done her part well in the movie. Her role in the movie is such that she has to move back and forth between doing the role of an innocent woman and an evil character.
What is there?
The movie has got an entertaining ending. The music composition in the movie is good.
What is not there?
Although the climax is fine, it is not fair that Gretel is freed in spite of her interest in witchcraft.
There are many gory scenes in the movie which might not go well with some section of the audiences.
Verdict:
The movie is worth watching once, and is a commendable output by the moviemakers.
