John D’Silva is a Konkani actor, playwright, and director. He was born on 20th February 1964 in San Jose de Alya, Salcete, Goa, India. He is popularly known as “The emperor of the Konkani stage” for his immense contribution to the field of Tiatr and the Konkani film industry. He did his undergraduate, Bachelor of Science from S.P. Chowgule College, Margao. He started his career as an actor in 1987 in Lino’s tiatr, ‘Dhorm’ and his professional Tiatr in September 1991 called ‘Chukele Raste.’ He got inspiration from his father, who was also a Tiatrist. In 1992, he wrote and directed ‘Chitarlolo Fator,’ ‘Jith’ and ‘Liplele Rupkar’ in 1993, Puja in 1994, and a video film ‘Xinn’ in 1995. John is the first Tiatrist to enter the “LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS 2010” for acting, writing, directing, and producing twenty-five Tiatrists having a double alphabet in their titles and thereby promoting tiatrs globally.

He was acknowledged by the Goa Legislative assembly, making him the first recipient of the ‘YUVA SRUJAN PURASKAR’ award from Art and Culture, Government of Goa, in 2009 for his massive contribution and efforts in the tiatr field. He is the first Tiatrist to release his 25th Tiatr ‘Nattok,’ in London and Germany. It was later staged throughout the state of Goa. He is also the first Tiatrist to enact a triple role in his VCD film ‘Fuddgi’ and a double role in the VCD film ‘Lofdde.’ His Tiatrs are always well written with captivating dialogues, strong morals, and messages. His Tiatr script, ‘BOVALL,’ was selected by Goa Konkani Academy to be published into a book.

He was awarded the ‘BEST COMEDIAN’ award for his comedy role in his drama, ‘MUNNE’ in the 7th Popular Tiatr Festival of Tiatr Academy of Goa and also the ‘BEST ACTOR’ award for his performance in ‘Home sweet Home’ in the 8th Goa State Film Festival. In 1999, he switched to a mainstream comedy role in his Tiatr ‘UMANNEM’ from his usual villain roles, which turned out to be a big hit creating a record in the Konkani theatre. He wrote, directed, and produced forty Tiatrs. He is one of the top most successful comedians and one of the best scriptwriters on the Konkani stage.
