Arijit Dutta is a Bengali entrepreneur and actor. He is well known for his work in Madras Cafe as Mallaya. Arijit was born on 17 October to Late Mr. Ashim Dutta and mother Mrs. Purnima Dutta. He did his primary schooling at St. Xaviers School, Kolkata. He went to St. Paul’s School, Darjeeling. He graduated from Jadavpur University in Kolkata, India.

He has an MBA degree from International Institute of Management Science, Kolkata. He has worked in different departments of corporate office like Finance, Personnel, Marketing, Secretarial, Projects at Genelec- Gec Ltd, Kolkata. He was also the Assistant Branch Manager at Patna’s Branch. Arijit was the chairman of Exhibitor Section of EIMPA in 1997, 1998 and 1999. He is associated with FICCI- Entertainment Committee since 1998. From 2000 to 2011, he was the Vice President of EIMPA (Eastern India Motion Pictures Association). He is the chairman of Entertainment Committee at Indian Chamber of Commerce. He was also the Vice President of Film Federation of India in 2011-2012.

He is also a Member of Executive Committee at EIMPA. He was also the United Nations Representative from India for the first Ethiopian Film Initiative Convocation in Addis Ababa. He has also represented in four North American Bengali Conference at San Francisco, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and Washington. He was the President of West Bengal Chapter- Forum for People Rights in 2011-12. Arijit is also a big sports fan. He is the silver medallist in rowing in West Bengal Championships- four and sculls- University Blue for the year 1985. He has also participated in For East Amateur Rowing Association (aka FEARA), Manila, Philippines. He won Gold-Fours, Gold-Eights, and Silver in Open FEARA Scull, 1986. He won Gold-Fours in 1987 at Hong Kong. He also won Gold at the National Open Fours for Bengal.

He is the Inter Club-Scull Champion. He has also played Cricket, Hockey, and Football at School and University levels. He has done courses at NCC- Cadet Army wing, Scouts Programme, and Pioneer. He passed the Duke of Edinburg’s Award Scheme. He also passed Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Course in Darjeeling.

He also has done Trap, Skeet and Rifle Shooting. Arijit also has a production house called Priya Pictures under which various movies and theatrical releases takes place. They include Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne of Satyajit Ray, Pratiwandi, Chutti by Arundhati Devi that won All President’s Gold Medal and is internationally acclaimed. He owns the first online cinema of East India named Priya Pictures with Digital Dolby Systems, Computerised Booking, and Christie Projection Systems.

He has done 30 plus cameo roles in Bengali cinema. He appeared in movies like Abar Araney, Bow Barreck Forever, Agatobash, Khela, Dhaki, and many more. His first appearance in Hindi movie was in Madras Cafe as Mallaya which gained him a lot of appreciation.
