Lion is the debut film of Satya Deva, and the teaser was released on December 31st, 2014 on the eve of New Year. The movie had mixed reviews from critics and was average at the box office. The director had been trying his luck to enter the Tollywood industry and his years of hard work came fruitful with his first movie. He started working on the script for four years and over all the years he tried making minute changes. In the film the lead actor plays the role of both Bose and Godse and he gets into the character very well. The actor Balakrishna lost about six kg of weight. Regardless of his age, Nandamuri had taken the risk to work out just for the improvement of his character. Satya says the actor survived on two meals a day for the character.

The movie Lion ran more than 400 days in cinema houses of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Satya Deva says he had much pressure as it was obligatory for him to deliver another hit after Legend, but with Nandamuri, it was all easy. For Satya, his actor’s support was enduring morale booster. The justification for such a title according to Satya Deva is that the character in the movie possesses some features of a brave lion. Satya is a devotee of Narasimha, and he felt the image of a lion for Balakrishna goes well with masses. He also says that he had never kept the actor’s political image while writing the script.
