The singer Vijayalakshmi embarked her journey of singing through Tamilnadu’s most significant singing reality show Vasanth TV Super Singer contest. She aimed to establish herself as a classical singer. Through the platform of Vasanth TV singing contest, this budding contestant wanted to show her talent to the world. She came second in the show. The singer started her journey in the show which was watched by judges such as Bharathwaj, Anupama and Mahathi and her first appearance in a reality shows as a contestant gave her hope to become a singer. Vasanth TV Super Singer is a reality-based Indian singing competition in the Tamil language that is aired on Vasanth TV channel; the program seeks to discover playback singers in South India. She participated in the contest in Vasanth Television on 23 September 2016.

Ms. Vijayalakshmi was the second winner of the competition. She was the recipient of 10 lakhs of Gold by Mr. H Vasanthakumar. Vijayalakshmi and singer Aalaap Raju sang the song 'Akila Akila En Chedi Pookathe' in the final round. Noted singer Aalaap Raju was also the judge of the show. It was a contest which had contestants singing old melodies of P Susheela, even songs of Kamal Hasan's songs were telecast in the program. The show paid an excellent tribute to singer L R Eswari by having one episode in her honor. The first singer was given Rs 60 lakhs worth house by Ruby Builders. The top five singers reached to the final in episode 111.

As the five top stars reached the final stage, Vijayalakshmi told that everyone has waited for the day. The judges were Bharathwaj, Aalaap Raju, and Anupama. Singer Anupama said the show had been an incredible journey, and it is not an easy task to review the singer's voice. She advised everyone to remain in the jolly mood until the final winner is announced. The other judge Bharathwaj told it is the best reality show. He appreciated the set up of the show and Vasanth TV for having conducted the reality show. He enjoyed the contestants’ performance. Another judge had said 'music is the ultimate winner.' The semi-finals were Ilaiyaraaja round. Mahathi came and said it is exciting to know about the ultimate singer. In episode 212, the three contestants reached the final stage.
