Jack Lemmon or John Uhler Lemmon was a reputable American actor and musician. The actor was an eight-time Academy Award nominee and has also won two. His works have always been appreciated and applauded by many. He has done over 60 movies which include many famous films such as The Apartment, Days of Wine and Roses, The Great Race, Some Like It Hot, The Odd Couple, Grumpy Old Men, Irma la Douce, Grumpier Old Men, The Out-Of-Towners and many others. He won an Oscar for the moral conflicting movie “Save the Tiger”. He also received another Oscar for Best Supporting Actor Award for the film “Mister Roberts”.

The actor was born in an elevator on February 8th, 1925 at Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts. Son of parents Mildred Burgess LaRue and John Uhler Lemmon Jr., who was a doughnut company president. Jack Lemmon didn’t have any siblings. He studied in John Ward Elementary School and The Rivers School in Massachusetts. In his acceptance speech upon receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, he said that he wished to be an actor from an early age of 8 years. He was an active member of Drama Clubs during his college days. He went to both Harvard College and Phillips Academy. He was a member of various clubs and was also the president of the Hasty Pudding Club.

Jack Lemmon was appointed for military duty during the 1940's World War. He was the aircraft carrier. After returning from his military duties, he completed his graduation and took up acting as a professional career choice. He worked on television, radio and Broadway. His fondness and ultra interest in music made him motivated to learn and play piano on his own. He also played other instruments like guitar, organ, the double-bass, and harmonica. Uta Hagen was his acting mentor and coach. In his first film, The Lady Takes a Sailor, he had a very tiny part and went unnoticed in the movie as a result. He finally received a worthwhile role in a comedy picture named “It Should Happen to You” which was released in 1954.

He came into the music industry when he sang two songs in 1955 for the film “Three for the Show”. A Twist of Lemmon was his first solo album which released on Epic Records in 1958. His second album, Some like It Hot, was released in 1959. His daughter Courtney was the child of his second wife, actress Felicia Farr. On 27th June 2001, he lost his life due to metastatic cancer.
