Mohit Takalkar is an Indian Theatre Director, film editor, and filmmaker from Pune, Maharashtra. He was born on 18th August 1977 in Kalyan, Maharashtra. His full name is Mohit Ratnakar Takalkar. His father is Ratnakar Takalkar, and his mother is Aparna Ratnakar Takalkar. Mohit did his graduation from the Institute of Hotel Management, Mumbai, and a Master's in Theatre Practice and direction from the University of Exeter, UK. He studied animation at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing. He met Geetanjali Joshi during the rehearsals of his first play, Yayati, in 2000 and married her in 2005. The couple got separated in 2007.

In 2010, Mohit received the prestigious Charles Wallace scholarship that allowed him to pursue his master's degree in theatre practice from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom. He has worked as a Theatre director, filmmaker, and restaurateur. His first play was Yayati, which earned him the Maharashtra State Award for Best Play and Best Director. Since then, he has directed more than 30 plays in Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, Kannada, Marwadi, and English.

Mohit has directed several movies. He also owns and runs his restaurant in Pune named Barometer. He is best known for his work in The Bright Day (2013), Medium Spicy (2022), and Toh, Tiani Fuji. Some of his most famous plays are Yayati (2000), Main Hoon Yusuf Aur Ye Hai Mera Bhai, F-1/105, Uney Purey Shahar Ek, Comrade Kumbhakarna, and Kashmir Kashmir.

In 2015, he directed Mai Hoon Yusuf Aur Ye Hai Mera Bhai, translated from Palestinian playwright Amir Nizar Zuabi's English play I am Yusuf and This is My Brother. This play won him five awards at the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards. During the COVID-19 pandemic period in 2020, Takalkar directed a play called The Colour of Loss, based on Han Kang's The White Book.

Mohit has directed many films apart from his plays. In 2012, he wrote and directed his debut film, The Bright Day, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. He later led the movie Chirebandi in 2017, Occasional Reflection on the Contingencies of Life in 2021, and Medium Spicy in 2022.
