1920: Evil Returns

1920 Evil Returns is a Bollywood horror film. Its star cast includes experienced actor Aftab Shivdasani in the lead role with Vidya Malvade, Tia Bajpai and Sharad Kelkar in supporting roles. Its story is penned by renowned horror filmmaker, Vikram Bhatt. The film is a sequel to the original title, 1920. The film’s trailer is clearly not for the faint hearted as it is replete with jump scares and blood-curdling screams. The trailer has a ferocious tempo to it, not allowing the viewer a moment of respite.

Trailer revolves around the characters trying to exorcise the ghost out of the possessed woman’s body. It ends on a spine-chilling note with the ghost directly confronting the protagonist. The film fared quite well at the box-office, considering Indian audiences have never been kind to horror films. Critics however assessed the film crudely with most of them labelling it as ‘bland’ and ‘uninspiring.’ Some critics, however admitted that it gave them a few ‘chills’ but wasn’t consistent enough in their eyes. Despite criticism the film managed to recuperate more than twice of its budget.
