Plot

Mugakavasa Mutham is the first segment in this anthology that showcases the pandemic situation and the people. It also involves a couple of police constables who fall in love with each other. The Loners speaks about the estranged lovers. Mouname Paarvayai is about a husband and wife who speaks through things and not directly. The Mask is about Arjun, a gay and his partner, Paul. Nizhal Tharum Idham deals with Shobi, who doesn’t want to mingle with people. After her father’s death, the situation turns even worse.

Star Performance

Whether it is the senior artists like Nadiya and Joju George or the youngsters like Gouri, Aishwarya, Arjun, and Teejay, everyone has played their part well.

Analysis

Each of the stories has a different theme. All of them focus on emotion, which worked out well in all the shorts. Balaji Mohan clearly explains the mentality of people of different age groups in the pandemic situation. Lijomol gets a good role in The Loners directed by Halitha. Although the story is simple, Lijomol impressed the audience with her natural performance. Mouname Paarvayaai is a beautiful film directed by Madhumita that has no dialogues. The love-hate story of a couple is shown neatly, and how the lockdown put them together is shown impressively. Surya Krishna’s The Mask and Richard’s Nizhal Tharum Idham also have specific plots to showcase various talents.

What’s There?

• Most of the short stories are good
• The performance of the stars are good, especially Nadiya and Joju George

What’s Not There?

• Balaji Mohan’s film should have been shot better
• Some stories have a slow-paced screenplay

Verdict

Not all anthologies come with a good set of stories. But, this one is an exception, and it carries a good set of stories that have impressive performances. Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa – an exciting watch!
