The movie Avvai Shanmugi stars the versatile actor Kamal Haasan, and the movie has the humorous vein running in it. The movie raised much eagerness among the fans as it deals with the love between a father and a daughter. Let’s see how the movie is.
The movie is all about paternal affection for which a man goes to any extent. Kamal Haasan and Meena have done the lead roles as husband and wife in the movie. Kamal Haasan belongs to a middle-class family, and Meena is from a very affluent one. Both are married to each other, and they have a girl. The movie begins with a court scene in which Meena gets a divorce from Kamal Haasan. But, Kamal Haasan is very much affectionate towards his daughter. He cannot miss her at any cost. Meanwhile, Meena advertises in the newspaper for a female caretaker for her daughter. Kamal Haasan does not want to miss the opportunity, and a bizarre idea crosses his mind. He gets the help of his friend Nagesh, a makeup man. He wears the attire of a woman and approaches Meena. What happens next is the rest of the story.
Kamal Haasan has done the role of Pandiyan, and Meena has played the role of his wife, Janaki. One would be spellbound to see Kamal Haasan in a woman’s attire since he has managed to showcase womanly traits perfectly. The scenes of him with his daughter
Ann Alexia Anra (who has done a commendable job) will make an impact in the minds of the viewers.
Meena’s performance as a frustrated wife who cannot manage with Kamal’s meager income is laudable. S P Balasubramaniam, the versatile singer has done the role of a doctor in the movie. It is a cameo appearance for him, but no doubt he has done it well. Also, Gemini Ganesan’s role as Meena’s father is captivating.
The story is no doubt inspired by the English movie Mrs. Doubtfire. But, the screenplay and direction by K S Ravikumar are very wonderful. The movie proves to be a good comedy, and of course, one can rely on the movie and watch it with the family. The movie’s theme is good, and the screenplay has been executed without any major flaw.

In some places, the comedy appears very cheap.
A treat for all those who prefer Kamal Haasan’s comic sense in films.
