Choreographer Richard Tholoor says that the use of dance for different purposes is growing at an impressive rate and he strongly feels that this change is permanent. A skilled Salsa trainer and performer, Richard David Tholoor says that dance has been a medium of physical fitness for people of all age groups and all genders. He says that there are people who have replaced the gym regime with dance because of its fun, creativeness and group activities. People are finding the gym routines monotonous and boring and are hence opting for energetic forms of dance instead. Richard says that dance helps in bringing people of all backgrounds to come together, interact and have a fun-filled learning of a different form of art and eventually lose a lot of calories; sometimes even more than the gym schedule for the same time. He says that the physical and mental fitness that dance offers are immense and it is a thorough exercise (certain forms of dance also require the use of all the muscles in the body), an art form, and it also helps in releasing stress and tension. Many women of the age of 30+ have started taking dance lessons to stay away from several diseases that they generally suffer from at that age. Also, Tholoor feels that it helps in breaking the ice between people of conservative background. The couple and group dances have been instrumental in having interactions between people of different ages in a comfortable and healthy environment. High energy dance forms require a lot of precision, thereby increasing the level of concentration.
