R Govinda Pillai, fondly called as Kochaniyan was not just an actor but an artist of Tollywood industry. He just entered the acting field by chance. He was doing a good job, but his passion was in acting, and that derived him on the sets of ‘Arabikkadalinte Rani,’ a Malayalam serial that aired on Doordarshan. ‘Arabikkadalinte Rani’ was the debut serial of R Govinda Pillai. In his career of three decades, he was a part of around 100 serials and 25 films. Although he was a part of many movies, serials made him favorite among the audience. Actually, till 1972, he was an employee in Indian Railways and was posted in Bangalore. Not only this, but he was also a part of Kollam District Cooperative Bank and was serving at the position of senior manager. This legendary left the world for heavenly on April 17, 2016.
At the time of his death, he aged 72. Many big stars of Tollywood visited to pay their last tributes to the actor and were a part of his cremation. He was cremated in Puliyathumukhu at SV Nagara that happens to be his residence. His death was not a sudden one as he was a cancer patient, and suffering from a long time. He was under constant observation in the hospital. He took his last breath in Kollam. He was rushed to a private hospital a few hours before his death after his condition deteriorated. His family, wife G Nalinambika was by his side in the hospital. He has two daughters, Pinky and Swapna.
