A film director and a screenwriter S.S. Rajamouli was born as Koduri Srisaila Sri Rajamouli in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, Telangana. He is well known for his hit films like Magadheera, Eega and Baahubali: The Beginning. He started off directing daily soaps in Telegu for Eenadu Television working under K. Raghavendra Rao. His debut as Film director was Student no.1 in 2001 which turned out to be a blockbuster. His next venture was after a long gap of two years, Simhadri, which also received rave reviews. His third flick Sye was based on a game of rugby and for this, he joined hands with K.K. Senthil Kumar. This film received appreciation from all over and was a hit. His next movie was Chatrapathi, which again touched the audience’s heart with the music by M.M. Keeravani and screenplay by Senthil Kumar. He collaborated with Raviteja for his next stint Vikramarkudu, which was remade into Hindi as Rowdy Rathore ( Director- Prabhu Deva, lead actor- Akshay Kumar), in Kannada as Veeramadakari, and as Siruthai in Tamil. Vikramarkadu turned out to be a very big hit. One of the most critically acclaimed films was his film, Yamadonga, which won critics’ heart followed by the biggest film for the Telegu industry, Magadheera. Magadheera was a commercial success, and he won the Nandi Award and the Telegu Filmfare Award for Best Director.

This film also won the National Award for Best Choreography. The popular Hindi cinema, Son of Sardar, is a remake of Rajamouli’s direction, Maryada Ramanna (2010). Rajamouli’s talent is not sufficed to India only, but he has also received international recognition. With his work Eega, which is a fantasy fiction he gained critical appreciation at the L’Etrange Film Festival. The movie was made in different languages and the Tamil version, Nan Ee was screened at the 10th Chennai International Film Festival. The Telegu version of the same film won multiple 8th Toronto After Dark Film Festival Awards for Most Original Film, Best Fights, Best Film to watch with a Crowd, Best Special Effects, Best Comedy, Best Villain, Best Editing, and Best Hero. Not just this, the Telegu version was also screened at various other Film Festivals like 2013 Cannes Film Festival, 16th Shanghai International Film Festival, and Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival.

It bagged the Award for Best Art Direction at the Fantaspoa Film Festival, Brazil and was nominated at the Madrid International Film Festival for multiple categories. Rajamouli’s most recent venture is Baahubali: The Beginning, which was a record-breaking hit and 3rd Global Highest Grossing Indian Film and India’s biggest commercial hit. This film is Rajamouli’s first film shot in a digital camera and his work received rave reviews and was published in The Guardian, The Hollywood Reporter, and The Huffington Post.
