Kannan Music Director

A renowned name in the Tamil industry, Kannan is a music composer who has composed music for Tamil and a few Kannada films. Although he has spent only seven years in this industry, he has still impressed the audience and critics with his work. He made his debut with a Tamil flick ‘Thamizh Padam’ that was released in 2010. He had a dream debut as all his compositions were a big hit and went on to win many awards. After that, it was no looking back for him, and he composed music for many other movies. But to him, success didn’t come that easily, and he had to struggle for almost a decade to reach this level of stardom. In an interview, he said that he came from a middle-class family and never aspired to become a music composer professionally. He graduated from his music college in 1988 and took up the job of a guitarist. He formed a group and used to sing and play at local events. It is then when he felt a spark in him to become a music composer. But, as he was not from a filmy background, his dream was even more challenging to achieve than other people. He said that this industry doesn’t accept an outsider and if you get trapped in the situation of the casting couch, you’ll see the dark side of this industry. Somehow, after running behind directors and producers, he got his break and composed a jingle for an ad commercial. This helped him earn appreciation but not recognition. He tied up with an advertisement agency named C.S Amudhan. He went on to compose music for some 600 ads through this agency. C.S Amudhan helped him to get his debut film as a composer, and the rest is history. Although, after his initial compositions most of his compositions failed to leave a mark as the films flopped at the box office. Kannan is currently working in Thamizh Padam 2, which is a sequel to his first movie. The flick is set to hit the screens by the end of 2017. His music in the film ‘Challenge’ was well received, and he only composed the music for its Kannada version. He gained popularity from his works in Mai, Kalkandu, Azhagan Azhagi, Pongadi Neengalum Unga Kaadhalum and Chaplin Saamandhi. His most famous song till date is ‘O Maha Zeeya’ from his first flick.
