Susi Ganeshan

Susi Ganeshan is an Indian producer, movie director, and writer. His original name is Ganeshan Subbiah. He was born to Tamil parents, named 'Sittammaal' and 'Subbaiya', in Vannivelampatti Tamil Nadu. He changed his name to Susi Ganeshan for screen presence. He did his graduation from Madras Institute of Technology, Anna University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in automobile engineering. In college, he worked as a journalist for Ananda Vikatan, a Tamil Magazine.In the period of 1991-1992, he was the chairperson of a student group at Madras Technical University named ATHENAEUM. During 1995 to 1998, he worked as an assistant for accomplished director Mani Ratnam during the shooting of the films Bombay, Iruvar, and Dil Se. In 2002, he gave his directorial debut with the movie “Five Star.” Mani Ratnam produced the film under the banner Madras Talkies. The movie had a cast of five newcomers in the lead role. It has a story that covers subjects like love, friendship, and social challenges. The story went on to win him Tamil Nadu State Film Awards in the category of Best Screenwriter. In the same year, he released the first movie that he wrote named 'Virumbugiren'  which he began developing from 2000. The film is a love story with a social message set in a village background. Prashanth and Sneha (a new-comer) played the lead role. Mary Francis produced it. In 2001, Tamil Nadu State Film Awards honoured it under various categories such as “Best Actress,” “Best Supporting Actress,” and “Best Director” won by 'Sneha', 'Easwari Rao', and Susi Ganeshan respectively. In 2003, the movie was chosen and screened at the “Kuala Lumpur World Film Festival.” Even after winning so many accolades the film got delayed and was released in the year 2002. In 2006, he developed a movie named 'Thiruttu Payale'.The cast of the film comprised of Sonia Agarwal, Malavika, and Jeevan. It became a hit and ran for a long time. Tamil Nadu State Government termed it as the third best film of the year. It became a breakthrough for the actors, especially for Malavika and Jeevan. In 2009, he directed “Kanthaswamy,” a film which showed inequality between wealthy and poor class. It was the first film in the south in which a character was a superhero. Vikram played the role of the lead protagonist. In 2013, he debuted in Bollywood with a remake of Thiruttu Payale named “ Shortcut Romeo.” Neil Nitin Mukesh, Ameesha Patel, and Puja Gupta played the lead roles in the movie. Susi Ganesh also produced the film.  Some of the projects he wants to pursue in the future include films such as Karuppan (starring Madhavan with ten leading ladies), which he announced in 2004. According to him, his next script is called H-MAN which is a mythological action in 3-D. He says that he wants to focus on Bollywood movies for some time and will do them for at least five years.
