Pijush Ganguly

Pijush Ganguly was a multi-talented Bengali actor who was well-known for his work in many television serials, theatrical plays and movies. He has been active in the Bengali entertainment industry for over a period of 20 years. He was awarded several times for his contribution to the industry. He has acted in nearly 21 movies and several TV serials. Pijush Ganguly was born on 2nd January in Balananda Hospital in Behala (Kolkata) in the year 1965. He had completed his entire schooling from Behala High School. He had graduated in B.Com (Honors) from South City College of Kolkata. He also had a degree in Arts. He loved painting and was an ardent fan of Manna Dey’s music. During school days, he was active in sports and wanted to pursue his career in Football, but he had to stop playing football because he was injured in an accident.

In addition to all these, he had a talent for singing. He had sung with many well-known singers of Bengal during his career. He married Pamela Ganguly at the age of 23 years. Pijush Ganguly had started his career with a job in NABARD but his passion for acting made him resign from that job and pursue his dream of acting. During his school days, he was a part of a local theater group ‘KRISTI’ and later on, he joined ‘GROUP THEATER.’ He stepped into the world of acting in the year 1994 in Abar Jokher Dhon. He has also hosted a reality show ‘Ma vs. Bouma.’ Pijush Ganguly has acted in over 21 movies during his career . Pijush Ganguly was a well-known singer too. He has done the playback singing for many tele-serials as well as a song in Dashami Bengali movie. Pijush Ganguly was awarded many awards for his acting and contribution towards the Bengali film and entertainment industry. He had won Prathamesh Barua award in 1991. In 1996, he won Shyamal Sen Smriti Samman for outstanding work in Bengali art, theater and films. He was awarded as a best supporting actor for Mahulbonir Sereng by Bengal Film Journalists’ Association in 2005.

He won an award in 2011 during Star Jalsha Parivar Awards. In 2004, he got 2 awards. One was a Tele Academy Award by Government of West Bengal and another one was Shailajananda Smarak Chalachitra Samman. Unfortunately, the Bengali Film Industry lost this multi-talented gem in a car accident on 25th October 2015. Pijush Ganguly died at the age of 50 in Belle Vue Clinic in Kolkata due to multi-organ failure following his road accident. On 20th October, Pijush’s car collided with a bus in Santragachi in Howrah when he was returning from a show. Pijush Ganguly’s wife Pamela Ganguly and son Tatai Ganguly are deeply affected by his death. Many of his friends recall him as a ‘man of the family’, a loving husband and a doting father. According to his friend, Pijush Ganguly has left behind a vacuum which only he could have filled up.
