One of his brothers Manzoor Ali is a Bollywood actor too. Over the years, he has got his hands soiled in many fields including horse breeding. He has worked in an oilrig off the coast of Pondicherry in South India, and was into carpet selling. He is a farmer too. He is into organic farming and supports organic methods widely. Lucky Ali has spent his childhood days mostly away from his family due to his father’s busiest shooting schedule. Once, after coming back from a boarding school, he has identified his father, who came to receive him, as the great comedian ‘Mehmood’, not realizing that it was his own father. He has studied in many education centers, including Maneckji Cooper Education Trust School at Mumbai. He has studied at the Bombay Scottish School there as well. Then at Mussoorie, he has continued his studies in Hampton Court School, and also at Saint George’s College there. At Bangalore, he has studied at the Bishop Cottons Boys’ School. Meaghan Jane McCleary a.k.a Masooma, who is actually from New Zealand, was his first wife who has starred in the video of his debut album ‘Sunoh’ in the song, ‘O Sanam’. He married again for the third time, this time it is to Kate Hallam, who had won the Miss England title and who was working as a model. Together, this couple has a son; his name is Dani. Lucky Ali is a religious person and his favorite is the Quran being recited. He believes religion is but a personal regimen that a spiritual seeker uses to connect to his Creator. His father wrote the script of ‘Dushman Duniya Ka’, meaning, Enemy of the World, a movie that was actually influenced by Lucky Ali’s tête à tête with marijuana. Manzoor, who is the younger brother of Lucky Ali, stars in this movie. The plot of the movie is about a young man, who is a drug abuser by the name, ‘Lucky’. In the final scenes, this young man will murder his own mother and then go on a rampage to obliterate everything that stands in his path and around his place, eventually to be killed by his own father’s hands. When asked about the movie, Lucky said and was quoted as, ‘feeling the story was totally lacking in hope’. Having said that, he has not declined the offer to sing his first song, and the film has his song in it. Lucky Ali has debuted with his album ‘Sunoh’, and it was a prompt success that made him one of the established singers in the Indian Music Industry. He has won ‘Screen Awards’ for the year 1996, and the ‘Viewers' Choice Award of Channel V’ in 1997, for ‘Sunoh’ in the category, ‘The Best Pop Male Vocalist’. For a total of 60 weeks, it listed on the MTV Asia Charts. His later albums were not up to the success of his debut. Lucky is also a self-taught guitarist. As for his vocals, he is famous for his distinct style, the voice seemingly that of an untrained person, described rather as ‘husky’, and the ballad style of singing. He is specialized in using such themes in his albums, like, Solitude, Freeness, Insignificance of Life, and a soul that is mostly interested in wandering away all the time. His playback-singing debut was with the movie ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’. In 2001, at the Forty-sixth Filmfare Awards presentations, he was honored with ‘The Best Male Playback Singer Award’ for ‘Na Tum Jaano Na Hum’, a song in that same movie.
