Debojyoti was brought up at K.M.Naskar Road, Tollygunge. His father Jahnabi Ranjan Mishra was a disciple of the legendary violinists like Ustad Ali Khan and Shishir Konya Dhar Choudhary from whom Debojyoti learned violin. Debashis, the elder brother of Debojyoti, was also playing violin but didn’t take it as a profession.

Debojyoti acquired his diploma in western classical music under Professor Joseph Naskar and the renowned composer and musician Stanley Gomes from the Royal School of Music, London in 1978. He has completed his training in Indian classical music under Late K.C Bandopadhayay and the legend Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. He has learned Guitar and Piano under the guidance of Slililda. He has started his musical journey at a tender age of 3 under the musical canopy of his father and many more musical legends. He worked as a music composer in 1992 with the movie “Kahini” directed by Malay Bhattacharya. During 1988-89, he was also the chief assistant of ‘Illayaraja’, the most renowned music director of South India. Bicycle was his first music album written and composed by himself and genuinely appreciated by the musical legends. In 1998 he has composed music for the film “Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa” directed by Govind Nihalani which got the National Award in the category of best feature film in Hindi. In the same year, the musical essence of Debojyoti crossed the boundary of the country with the music composition of the movie “Ramcchand Pakistani” directed by the Pakistani film director Mehreen Jabbar.

He added another feather to his cap with his music in the movie “The Shadow Of Time” directed by the German Filmmaker Florian Gallenberger. Debojyoti is not only a music composer, but he is a poet, a lyricist, a painter and a violinist also. Poetry is his second choice after music. By the influence of his mother, he became a voracious reader of literary works at a very young age. He is strongly inspired by the works of Elliot, Tagore, Coleridge, Mallarme, Lorca, etc. which helped him a lot to rule over the lyrical-world of music. As a composer of more than 500 jingles, he is the aesthetic mind behind the success of many brands such as Berger Paints, Asian Paints, Haier Plasma, India Today and much more.

He has composed a number of jingles in Bangla also. As a born painter, Debojyoti exhibited his first solo exhibition in ICCR Kolkata from 7th December to 14th December 2012 by Jyotirmay Bhattacharya, one of the youngest arranger of exhibitions. In this show, his creations were highly appreciated by the critics, media and the master artists as well and all his paintings were sold at a record time. Recently Mirage Art Gallery Kolkata exhibited the arts of Debojyoti along with the paintings of M. F. Hussain, Jogen Chowdhury, Paritosh Sen, Akbar Padamsee, Ganesh Pyne and other eminent artists. Last year the composer presented a breathtaking and spectacular programme “Ganner Golpo” in the inauguration of 35th NABC at Houston. He also presented the musical theater last year with more than 100 participants in Alberta Bengal Festival at Calgary.

Presently Debojyoti is composing an album based on the theme of the epic “ Mahabharata Story soon >> Read More... .” He is also working on a Bengal Opera for Bangladesh. He is also preparing his paintings for the “Colour Concerto,” an Art Exhibition for Bangladesh. On 1st January 2017, Debojyoti turned to age 57. As a person, he is very shy in nature. Even he cannot express his love towards somebody due to his shyness as per his confession. He does not attend parties, rather he feels comfortable with the company of some few friends. He loves loneliness. This might be the cause behind his heart touching lyricism in his songs. In the age of 47, he remarried Janoki, a trained singer. His ex-wife Parama is also a classical singer.
