The world of Internet has always been a place of wonder. Many things which were earlier considered to be impossible in real life are not only possible at present but also easily accessible to people. With every passing day internet and particularly social media is coming within reach of people from all classes and categories.
So it is no surprise when aspiring artists in any field instead of running behind popular names for their break choose to use the internet as a launch pad for their talent. This wasn’t in vogue till a few years ago but now a lot of comedians, artists, dancers, singers, actors and others find success with their stints on social media and gradually get their big break in their chosen fields without the hassle of the old days. One such internet sensation is 25-year old Mithila Palker.
Born on 12th January 1993, Mithila comes from a middle-class Marathi family. She has an older sister who has a PhD in neuroscience and is seven years older than her. Palker stayed with her grandparents as a kid and has been raised by them.
She was inclined towards the performing arts since a very young age. Coming from a family of music lovers who loved to watch reality shows together it is no wonder that she is a trained Hindustani classical singer and a third-year Kathak student.
Her first tryst with the stage was at the tender age of 12 and since then she has never looked back. While pursuing a major in mass communication she joined a theatre group named Q Theatre Productions (QTP) working for their annual youth theatre festival Thespo. Eager to take her love for acting forward she auditioned for and finally bagged the role of Imran Khan’s sister in
Katti Batti which released in 2015.
Her presence on the internet was first felt in the form of a web comedy-cum-news show named News Darshan which was broadcasted by FilterCopy. After that she came up with a sketch Confusing Things Girlfriends Say followed by a counter sketch Annoying Things That Boyfriends Do.
Both these sketches went viral. Just a few days later inspired by the
Anna Kendrick cup song from
Pitch Perfect she uploaded a similar cup video of hers, featuring the Marathi song Hi Chaal Turu Turu. This song went insanely viral and made her a mini-celebrity overnight. She started receiving mails from all over the world and finally started gaining visibility for her talents.
She went on to feature in some web series, which became a hit among the millennials who finally found something personally relatable. So far she has appeared in Dice Media’s Little Things, Girl in the City and Office Chukyagiri. Little Things won a gold medal at the India Film Project. She along with her co-star
Dhruv Sehgal won the best digital Jodi award in Talent Track Digital Awards 2017.
Palker has appeared in some magazine interviews talk shows and posed for the cover of Femina as well. She has also delivered a TEDx talk at NIT Silchar. She recently appeared in a Marathi film named Muramba which was loved by both the critics and the audience alike. She is set to appear in her first lead role in the upcoming Bollywood movie Karwaan starring alongside
Irrfan Khan and Dulquer Salman.
With a huge fan following and a strong presence on social media, coupled with a handful of projects in hand the future surely looks bright and beautiful for her.
