The period of 1950s & 60s was the period when film was music and music was film. Those days Hindi cinema had featured some great classical dance sequences which required the dancing abilities of heroines. Though Padmini, Ragini or Vyjayanthimala were known as classical dancers who graced the cinema, then, but one cannot forget the name of Kumkum, who had raised to popularity much before them.

She was from a highly reputed family, and her father was the Nawab of Hussainabad. Her acting was remembered through her best-known roles in Mr. X in Bombay (1964), Mother India (1957), Son Of India (1962), Kohinoor (1960), Ujala, NayaDaur, ShreemanFuntoosh, EkSaperaEkLutera, Ganga Ki Lahren, Raja AurRunk, Aankhen(1986), Lalkaar, Geet and Ek Kuwara Ek Kuwari.
