Kenny Basumatary is an admired, young Assamese director and actor. He is famous for his iconic Assamese movie titled Local Kung Fu (2013), which is a very low-budgeted film that did exceptionally well at the box office. Kenny grew up in Assam and learnt Kung Fu as a child. With his excellent training in combat, he prepared himself to become a master in martial arts during his childhood. However, he went through a change of mind and chose acting as a career. Before entering into the Showbiz, he studied Computer Engineering at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi. He dropped out of college before the completion of his course and went on to work as a newsreader for news channels. Later, in 2009, he shifted to Mumbai in the hopes of attending a movie scripting workshop.

He penned the script for Local Kung Fu in 2009 and expected it to be made into a Bollywood movie. On moving back to Guwahati, Kenny gathered a nominal sum of money to make the Assamese superhit Local Kung Fu. It belongs to the genre of comedy and action.

The film was released nationwide and it was the second theatrical of Assamese origin which was released all over India. It received critical acclamation and Kenny got commended for his directorial abilities. Local Kung Fu was Kenny’s debut in direction. He got nominated for best director award at the Filmfare Awards for the Eastern Region. Kenny is a modest person who appreciates the opportunities that he received. He is a down-to-earth individual who loves practicing Kung Fu. Local Kung Fu has been nominated as the best Assamese film in the Filmfare Awards for the Eastern Region.
