Neena Kulkarni is a Marathi stage actress who has established her worth in gold through many superb performances on Marathi stage and films. She was born in a family of doctors and both her parents are still practicing doctors.
She had been interested in acting since her childhood and took part in the skits and one act plays when she was as young as 9 years old. She was a regular in such programmes of Makrand society at Mahim in western suburbs of Mumbai where they used to live. Incidentally she still lives in the same society. She completed her graduation from Elphinstone College Mumbai with French as a major. After completing her BA, she took up acing on stage as a full time profession and in due course of time proved herself to be a devoted and committed actress through her performances mostly in Marathi theatre and stage. Slowly and steadily, she moved on to Television and movies mostly in Marathi. Gradually she moved to Hindi serials and the age bracket she was in, she was offered the character roles of generally a good mother or mother in law in many serials.
She performed as Mrs. Iyer, the mother of female protagonist in the serial 'Yeh hain Mohabbatein' and as Gulnaar in Sony TV serial Heena in a loud sari and make up with Urdu accent and surma in her eyes.
Her husband Dilip Kulkarni was also an actor and passed away a few years back. Recently she has entered into film production and the first film produced by her company shevai (Marathi) was successful.
