Joy Supratim (Bhol), an Indian cinematographer best known for his work in Bengali and Hindi films, was born on 10th December 1979 into a farming family in the Midnapore District of West Bengal. As a result of the reputation for Patchitra, the oldest form of audio-visual art, he got exposed to the arts from a young age. He attended St. Xavier Collegiate School in Kolkata for his education and grew up in the charming, historic North Kolkata neighborhood. He earned a Senior Diploma in 1995 and a Visharad in Theoretical Art from Sarba Bharatiya Sangeet O Sanskriti Parishad in Kolkata. He had a passion for photography.
He developed his photographic studies abilities under the tutelage of photographer Pranab Basu and at Fergusson College in Pune. He has also contributed to projects including the regional languages of Haryanvi, Odia, and Chhattisgarhi.
