Phillip Ko-Fei

Phillip Ko Fei was an actor, director, producer, and screenwriter who had many awards to his credit. He is best known for movies like Angel On Fire, Magkasangga 2000, The Invincible Armour, Killer’s Romance, Seeding of a Ghost, among many others. Fei was also a part of the 2002 Hindi flick Awara Paagal Deewana as an action coordinator. Fei received immense appreciation for his contribution to Kung Fu movies.

Ko Fei was born on June 18, 1949, in Hong Kong, British Crown Colony, present China, as Fai Ko Fei. Philip Ko completed his schooling at the University of China. He later pursued commerce and liberal arts at the Hong Kong campus of his school. He worked as an instructor in theatre and film at the University of China. His other wife is Madie, and he survived by a son named Wanggo, a screenwriter and lifestyle writer.

Kao Shan (his other name) began his career bottom-up as a stunt extra when he was only nineteen years of age, his first appearance on the screen being as a dead body. The movie, which was a Shaw Brothers production, was directed by Chang Cheh. Fei was usually featured as a villain in his movies since he did so much justice to such characters, although he would star as the protagonist too.

Arguably, Fei’s most significant achievement in his movie career is the flick Supernoypi, which he helmed on winning a contest of scriptwriting promoted by Experimental Cinema, Hong Kong, and China. He bagged awards from elite organizations like the International Film Festival of Flanders-Ghent, Belgium.

His other awards include Special Jury Award (Hong Kong & China International Film Festival, Kung Fu) and Best Production Design for the flick Magkasangga sa batas by Gawad Urian Awards. Fei got awarded Best Director and Best Screenplay for the fantasy film Exodus: Tales from the Enchanted Kingdom at the 2005 Metro Manila Film Festival.

In the1980s, he got selected as a member of the Film Academy Classification Board (FACB). Gan Fei’s most notable movie projects are Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars, Legend of a Fighter, Shaolin Intruders, The Mars Villa, Dreadnaught, Tiger on the Beat, On The Run, Eastern Condors, and Dragons Forever.

Phillip Koh debuted as a director with the 1982 film Dirty Angel where he also featured as Fei Ko. He discovered his passion for directing movies since he continued to helm film after film after that project, some of them being Millenium Dragon, Guns & Roses, and Final Run.

Ko Fei left this world aged sixty-seven on March 30, 2017, in Hong Kong, China, where he lived with his wife, Madie.
