Pratim D. Gupta

Pratim D. Gupta is a well-known screenwriter, film director, and journalist from the Bengal  film industry. He was born on 11 November 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal. He studied at South Point School Kolkata and completed graduation in Mass Communication and Film Studies from St. Xaviers College, Kolkata. Pratim's career started as a journalist in the newspaper The Telegraph. In 2009, his script, Vanish, was selected at the prestigious Locarno International Film Festival.

After that, he got his first break from the Bengali movie Paanch Adhyay, written and directed by him. The film was selected at  Centrepiece Premiere at New York's South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF) and also chosen as the New Voice in Indian Cinema at the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI). Pratim directed notable films are X: Past is Present(2013), Sahib, Bibi aur Golaam(2016). Sahib, Bibi aur Golaam film won 6 Filmfare Awards Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and  Best Screenplay.

In 2013, his screenplay was selected by Sundance Lab (India edition), where he had to develop the script with the Oscar winners Asif Kapadia Asif Kapadia is a filmmaker in Britain. He was bor >> Read More... and Joshua Marston. Later, he made the Bengali film Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo with this script. His other Bengali movie, Maacher Jhol, also got selected for the International Film Festival of India Goa, 2018. This film won the Best Dialogue Filmfare Award. He has also written and directed the Hindi telefilm Mirchi Malini. His other Bengali film, Ahare Mon, was picked as one of the best films by film critic Meenakshi Shedde on Sunday Mid-Day.
