Sunil Mukherjee, alternatively known as Sunil Mukhopadhyay, was a renowned actor known for his numerous roles in Bengali and Hindi films, television serials, and on-stage performances. Born on September 16, 1946, he was commonly known for his comedic roles. (1998), Nadir Paare Aamar Bari (2001), Mon Mayuree (1990),15 Park Avenue (2005), Zameen (2012) and a few other films. Additionally, he worked as an assistant cinematographer in the film industry.
Unfortunately for him, he made his debut in Director Mrinal Sen’s film Kolkata 71 but due to technical issues in editing his acting space was left out. However, he gained recognition by playing a lead role in the movie, Neem Annapurna. In most of these films, he had played marginal roles like that of a thief, drunkard, servant, etc. Eventually, Sunil’s amazing talent was acknowledged and he was awarded a Bengali Film Journalists’ Association Award for the actor playing the best supporting role in the film Phera (1988). Distressed by various financial and medical problems, he passed away in May 2012 at the age of 65 in Kolkata.
