Moghai Ojah or Moghai Baruah (1916–1978) was one of the first to have introduced the Dhol of Assam to a global audience. Pioli Phukan, Ranga Police, Pratidhwani, Mahut Bandhu Re (Bengali), and Maram Trishna are only a handful of the films in which Moghai Ojah has appeared as an actor. Ojah was born in a family of Chutia origin in Naosolia Gaon, Jorhat, Assam. Due to his family’s financial situation, he had to spend some time working on a tea estate in Chenijan throughout his boyhood. In 2015, the Srijanasom Trust, a nonprofit organization founded to promote Indian art and culture, established the ‘Moghai Ojah Srijan Award’ in his honor. Padmashri Jatin Goswami, a well-known performer of the sattriya dance, was the first recipient of this award. He passed away in his home on 15th March 1978.
