64-year-old Ponvannan is an actor and director in the Tamil film business. After beginning his career as an artist, the man worked as a novice director and writer under Bharathiraja, who is famous for depicting pastoral life in his movies. Hailing from Chennai, Ponvannan stepped into the big screen industry by directing Annai Vayal in 1992, but it could not bring the man in the limelight. He started doing supporting roles.

After a few more movies that went unnoticed, Ponvannan got the much-needed comeback through the romantic-drama Paruthiveeran, which won two National Film Awards. He managed to bag roles in the 2009 movie Anjathe, directed by Mysskin and Ayan, which also came out in 2009. The man earned big fame through his acting skills in the 20th century set film Kaaviya Thalaivan, which hit the screen in 2014.

Ponvannan is at present the Vice President of the South Indian Artistes’ Association or the Nadigar Sangam, in the ordinary. The association provides for retired actors, supports artists involved in a controversy, and has fought against socio-political concerns in the past. The man got elected as the Vice President of the Nadigar Sangam in 2015, along with the Tamil actor and comedian Karunaas. At present living with his wife, Saranya and their two daughters the man confesses that he dreamt of becoming a drawing master in Erode and had no plans of coming into the silver screen industry.
