"Naandhi” is a crime thriller scripted and directed by Vijay Kanakamedala. Satish Vegesna produced the film. Allari Naresh plays the lead role. The movie also has the supporting cast of Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Priyadarshi Pullikonda, Harish Uthaman and Praveen. Sricharan Pakala composed the music. Sid cranked the camera and “Chota K Prasad” is the editor.

Surya belongs to a middle-class family. He leads a satisfactory life with a decent job and makes his parents happy. Surya is about to get married and had been in dreams about his future. All of a sudden, the police arrest him for a crime, which he didn’t do. A notable criminal lawyer comes to his rescue and with her help, he comes out and takes revenge on the people who dragged him into the uninvolved crime. Was he successful? The rest of the plot deals with the law, its loopholes and how people use it.

Star Performance

Naresh did a decent job and proved his versatility in emotional scenes. It is quite a tough role to deal with and Naresh did it perfectly well. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar had already proved her talent in various films in Tamil and she once again did it here. Her body language is perfect and she fits well in the role. Her majestic appearance and eye language are fantastic. The rest of the cast, including Harish Uthaman and Praveen, did their part well.

The first half of the film is completely engaging and the second half loses it a bit. However, the performances of the stars make us sit back and enjoy the film. Although the film has some interesting plot, we could see the routine political play. This is another film that speaks about the sections of the Indian Penal Code. Yet, it could have been handled better. If some of the scenes in the courtroom had been narrated with perfection, the film would have been better. The art director should definitely be appreciated for excellent set work. The lighting and camera work is fantastic.

What’s There?

  • Performances of the stars are laudable
  • The movie is technically sound and the production values are good

What’s Not There?

  • The second half should have been better with a gripping screenplay

Allari Naresh, who was admired as a comedy hero, is perfect with his emotional performance and proved that he could manage any role. Varu will have a good future and that reflects in Naandhi. For the performance of the stars, Naandhi is definitely watchable once!
