Unakenna Venum Sollu is here to fulfil this week's quota of horror films. It is a feel good horror film because it scares you a bit and also makes you think too. But the lack of strong emotional connect makes it difficult for the audience to understand the director's point of view. The film is technically well made, but the only issue is the usage of routine methods to scare people and also for not sticking to the horror genre throughout. Post interval the film gets a bit dragging and melodramatic.

Unakenna Venum Sollu is a promise that a dad made to a child, when she was in her mother's womb. They decide to go ahead with the baby though they are not married. Situations change and they break up. The baby is sent to an orphanage, where she dies. She comes back as a spirit and wants to take revenge on people who are responsible for her trauma and to make her dad fulfil his promise.

I have to appreciate the director for picking up a huge social issue and making an attempt to convey a message with some horror and sentimental elements. I liked the 1st half and the climax. Anything in between was not griping and boring. But the director somehow managed to bring the film back on track for the climax by giving up a sneak peek of the supernatural elements, hypnosis and I liked the parallel screenplay in the climax which has 4 sequences running in parallel and gave the film a neat finish.

Technically, the film looks good. Cinematography and editing were good, though I wished for a few cuts here and there in the 2nd half to make it more gripping. Music was decent and complimented the narration quite well. Performances wise, everyone did an Ok job, but they looked a bit confused and failed to emote at places.

Unakenna Venum Sollu is a decent feel good horror film that drags in the 2nd half with a predictable storyline and routine scary elements, and also lacks a bit of clarity.
