Thalaivi is a biographical film scripted by Vijayendra Prasad and directed by AL Vijay. It is a multilingual film, simultaneously shot in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh produced the film on a large scale. Kangana Ranaut, Arvind Swamy, “Nassar,” Bhagyashree Patwardhan, “Samuthirakani” in Tamil and Telugu, and he was replaced by Raj Arjun in Hindi version, “Madhoo,” Jisshu Sengupta, Thambi Ramaiah, “Poorna,” Flora Jacob, Bharath Reddy, Vidya Pradeep, and “Shanmugarajan” are cast. Vishal Vittal cranked the camera. Anthony and Ballu Saluja edited the film. “G V Prakash Kumar” composed the music.

The film deals with the life incidents of the late Tamilnadu CM Madam “Jayalalithaa.” But, the character names are slightly changed; instead of MGR, they had changed MJR, Jayalalithaa is mentioned as Jaya throughout the film; RMV is mentioned as RNV. The initial stages of Jayalalithaa in the film industry and then her political career are focused.

Star Performance

Kangana is a star performer, and she excelled in this too. In some scenes, they have let her speak Hindi dialogues, and that was the only flaw. Arvind Swamy and Samuthirakani excelled in their roles and had supported the Thalaivi Kangana perfectly.

We already know that Kangana is a wonderful performer. Although she doesn’t resemble Jayalalithaa, she tried a lot to bring the late CM before our eyes. Thanks to AL Vijay and the team for choosing her. If the scenes regarding the relationship between MJR and Jaya had been made in a complicated manner, the team might have faced some adverse comments from the followers. But, it is Vijayendra Prasad who played safe and made the audience stay, respecting both the leaders. Madhubala and Nassar appear for some time and register their presence. Vijay’s direction is good, and GV Prakash’s music is good as usual. The cast selection team should be given a pat for picking up the right stars. The cinematography and editing are neat. After two+ decades, Madhubala and Arvind Swamy shared the screen space in this film, after the super hit Roja directed by Mani Ratnam.

What’s There?

  • The performance of the stars are good
  • Direction and screenplay are handled neatly

What’s Not There?

  • A few errors like lip-synching

Thalaivi is a good biographical drama that speaks about the rise of a leader and some phases of her professional and personal life. Kangana wins the heart of the audience once again! Thalaivi – Rocking!
