Plot: Evil Doctor enacted by Ashutosh Rana A versatile actor, Ashutosh has worked in Indian f >> Read More... has his accomplices in Chennai and all over in Tamil Nadu, terminating pregnancies in their early stages. Stem cells are retrieved from the fetuses and used to cure and treat spinal injuries, blindness and diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer's. The ward boy, Ramaiah in a Chennai hospital smells something fishy when a surprisingly large number of abortions are seen. He couriered a specimen of the abortion-inducing tablet with a message to a social activist, enacted by Nasser.

The courier guy is Tamilselvan (an inexpressive and wooden Jai, his custom trademark), who has joined the company on the posturing of his best friend, Nasar ('Santhanam' is back as the hero’s accomplice, cracking jokes that are boring and mellow by now). Coincidences make the vital packet land into the hands of Tamilselvan, who uncovers at the point of delivery, that the activist being tortured by Dr. Evil’s henchmen.

Analysis: A long chase sequence is there, which seems so repetitive, as are the scenes where Tamilselvan turns for Kavya, a sales girl in a garment store. He starts to drop her a packet every single day, and the packages contained advertisement stuff that he himself sends! If this does not rakes the measure of exaggeration, the thing seems equally dubious. Gautam is all decked up and a wild looking Jai enforce what seems like a slapstick relationship in a story with such a sensitive subject but unnecessarily allowed to jaywalk into emptiness. With a potent plot at his service, the director does seem promising when it comes to connecting the links. But the screenplay lacks in a glossy finish due to few unnecessary sequences.

Added to this, is the fact that he takes his time to build the plot and bogs down the proceedings ultimately. This continues till it picks up speed. It then clearly makes you conjecture as to what will happen next. The cinematography is just, and it is remarkable that a few brilliant shots have made the cut. For example, in the track where the goons question about the status of delivery, the Director Of Photography has chosen an extremely low angled wide shot - a smart trick. Similar such stratagem are present in the film which makes us overlook the minor glitches.

The editor has bowled us over by wrapping up the movie in less than an hour. Although dismissing a few scenes might have given us a neat package, credits to the editor for giving us a sleek sequence just before the interval. The movie graphically rises steadily but ends all of a sudden. Maybe a nicer climax would have given a defined edge, rather than one which looks artificial. Music director Karthik scores with his work and Sandeep Chowta impresses with his clear cut BGM. The art directors have done a praiseworthy job by opting for narrow lanes for giving us the uptight feel of always being chased.

Star performance: Gautam completely wasted, after her enthralling performance in Vicky Donor. The cast is good enough with Jai at his customized best. Yami could have been given a more substantial role. Though Santhanam’s presence in a thriller is questionable, his comebacks and one-liners do tickle us in every scene he appears. On the whole, the director has taken up quite an interesting plot but misses the target when it comes to execution. But one may say that Premsai has done a quite a fair job in his debut.

What's there? The film explores a new concept of stem cell extraction, and this is a thrilling choice. The explanations of why - how- why it is crime are dealt perfectly here. Too many scenes are allotted for hero’s trials to win this girl. Few of them succeeds in bringing a smile. We get the feel of watching something repetitive. The saving aspect is that certain incidents occurring in these scenes have been astutely connected with the thrilling proceedings of the second half.

What's not there? The over dependency on decent turns, logical technicality and climax moving on obvious lines glooms the effect of watching a thriller. Assisting turns are allowable to a certain limit in commercial flicks. But not so much to take in this- a mobile phone unintentionally falls down while an incoming; the call gets connected and by that, an crucial conversation between the baddies gets out of the room.

Verdict: A nice delivery that could have been a bit sharper and faster.
