Ponniyin Selvan is a historical novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The novel is adapted and directed by Mani Ratnam. B Jayamohan and Elango Kumaravel co-scripted the film. The film has the music composition by “A R Rahman.” Ravi Varman cranked the camera and “A Sreekar Prasad” edited the film. Plot

Aaditha Karikalan is the elder son of Sundara Cholar. Vandhiya Thevan is a friend of Aaditha Karikalan. Arunmozhi Varman and Kundhavai are Aaditha Karikalan’s younger siblings. Nandini, the ex-lover of Aaditha Karikalan is the wife of Periya Pazhuvettarayar. While Aaditha Karikalan’s family tries to save the Chola Kingdom, Nandini wanted to bring the kingdom down. Meanwhile, Arunmozhi Varman is in Sri Lanka to capture the Kingdom. Pandiyas sent some guards to kill Arunmozhi. Aaditha Karikalan sent Vanthiya Thevan to save Arunmozhi. What happens next? Was Nandini successful in bringing down the empire? The rest of the film deals with it.

Star Performance

Aishwarya Rai excels in her role as Nandini, the villain. The performances of Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Jayaram and Trisha are decent. Prakash Raj, Parthiepan, Sarath, Rahman, and Jayachitra did justice to the given roles in their extended cameo roles.

Analysis

The story by Kalki Krishnamurthy is popular among a lot of people. After Mani Ratnam’s announcement about Ponniyin Selvam, many started reading the novel. The screenplay by Mani Ratnam, Elango Kumaravel and Jeyamohan is interesting. The visuals are excellent, and the editing is good. The BGM by AR Rahman is impressive. The visual effects are fantastic. The production values are perfect.
