19(1)(a) is scripted and directed by Indhu VS. Anto Joseph, and Neeta Pinto produced the film. Manesh Madhavan cranked the camera, and the music composition was by Govind Menon. The film features Nithya Menen, Vijay Sethupathi, Indrajith Sukumaran, “Indrans,” Srikant Murali, Bhagath Manuel, Deepak Parambol, Abhishek Raveendran, Athulya Ashadam, Sreelakshmi, and Arya K Salim.

Plot

A girl runs a photocopy shop, and her life has nothing interesting. After her mom’s death, her father feels guilty that he would have saved her if he had attended her phone call. After that, he loses his strength and stops his regular activities. This makes the girl take her father’s position. One day a writer named Gowri Shankar visits her shop to take photocopies of a script. He asked her to take copies, saying he would get that at the end of the day. She thought she could repair the photocopy machine with the money he gives. But he didn’t return. To her shock, she hears his death news. What would she do? Will she take ownership of the story? The rest of the film deals with that.

Star Performance

Nithya Menen plays the lead star and excels in her role. Vijay Sethupathi plays a character role, and it is needless to say about his performance. Indrajith and the rest of the stars did justice to their roles.

Analysis

Indhu has brought a new script, and her story deals with society too. The right cast is picked, and everyone did justice to the given roles. When the flow of the film was smooth, the audience expect some connectivity between the lead actors and the story. Though the connection is decent, the director hadn’t named the lead actress and that didn’t go well with the audience. Yet, it is a different attempt. The dad-daughter scenes are portrayed well. The production designer, cinematographer, and music composer should be appreciated for their sensational work.

What’s There?

  • The performances are fantastic
  • The script and execution are good

What’s Not There?

  • A few minor faults

Verdict

19(1)(a) is definitely a one-time watch for the script, performances, visuals, and music.
