Samrat Prithviraj is a historical action thriller scripted and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi. Aditya Chopra produced the film under the Yash Raj films banner. The film is based on the Rajput King, Prithviraj Chauhan. Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana, Sakshi Tanwar, Lalit Tiwari, Ajoy Chakrabarty, Govind Pandey, and Manoj Joshi are cast in prominent roles. Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan and Loy composed the songs and BGM is by Ankit Balhara and Sanchit Balhara. Manush Nandan cranked the camera, and editing is by Aarif Sheikh.

Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan is a warrior king who fights to protect his people from Muhammed Ghori. Sanyogita is one of the wives of Prithviraj Chauhan. Prithviraj and Sanyogita’s romance is one of the most spoken about romantic stories of those times. What is the part of Sanyogita in Prithviraj’s rule? How did Prithviraj manage to save his Kingdom from the foreign invaders? All these form the rest of the plot.

Star Performance

Akshay Kumar has done his best. Manushi didn’t create any strong impression, yet okayish with her role. Sanjay Dutt did justice to the given role, and Sonu Sood is impressive with his emotions.

There are a separate set of audience for the historical action-thriller genre. Akshay Kumar is the right choice and he carried the whole film in his shoulders. Yet, some roles could have been scripted better. The cinematography is fantastic and the editing is pretty okayish. The action scenes are very much impressive. The songs gel well with the story and the BGM is neat. The production values are good, and the technical values are high.

What’s There?

  • Neat performances of Akshay, Sanjay, and Sonu
  • The songs and visuals are impressive

What’s Not There?

  • Certain characters should have been made well

You will definitely like the film if you are an Akshay Kumar fan. Though it is good with the history genre concept, not all would like it. However, for its making and performances, the film is watchable once!
