Jalsa is a thriller drama scripted by Prajwal Chandrashekar and directed by Suresh Triveni. Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vikram Malhotra, Shikhaa Sharma, and Suresh Triveni produced the film. Gaurav Chatterji composed the music. Saurabh Goswami cranked the camera. The film features Vidya Balan, Shefali Shah, Manav Kaul, Rohini Hattangadi, Sofiya Khan, Iqbal Khan, Abbas Dalal, Mangesh Desai, Gurpal Singh, Surya Kasibhatla, Junaid Khan, and Vijay Nikam.

Maya Menon is a journalist. She is a single mother, and her son, Ayush Menon, has some physical complexities. Maya’s mom, Rukmini, stays with her and takes care of her grandson with much love and affection. Rukshana is Maya’s cook,  in her 40s like Maya. Maya and Rukmini share a good bonding with Rukshana, and so does she. These women faced different problems in their life, yet they managed the situations. Life takes a different turn when an accident takes place. Who is responsible for the accident? Who is affected? What does fate bring? All these questions are answered in the next part of the film.

Star Performance

Vidya Balan excelled in her role, Maya. Her body language, her dialogue delivery, and her expressions are fantastic. Shefali Shah gives a tough competition to Vidya in terms of performance. Rohini Hattangadi did a tremendous job in the assigned role with decent screen time. The rest of the stars did a fair job.

Though there is no particular story with some theme, the chain of incidents and emotions is tied up well and draws the audience’s attention. Suresh Triveni knows Vidya’s capacities and rightly picked her for portraying Maya, a lady with a challenging personal life and a promising career. Her character is designed well. Maya, a clean journalist, had always stayed true to her profession, and Vidya fit well in Maya’s shoes. On the other hand, Shefali’s makeover as Rukshana is fantastic. The director should be appreciated for picking these stars for his central characters. Cinematography is one of the biggest pluses. The BGM projects the sequences and gives an electrifying feel.
