Plot: Robert De Niro A legendary actor and one of the most influential >> Read More... , who is a 70-year-old retiree, wants to keep himself occupied, but not with the random jobs. In fact, he is pleased with the regular 9-5 one. This he achieves by replying to a “senior internship program” advertisement of Anne Hathway. Anne Hathway is the CEO of an online startup which deals with women garments. De Niro joins the job and is not browbeaten by the stubbornness of his manager. He works equally hard as the boss. At one stage Hathway ponders on virtually ignoring him, but finally De Niro wins her heart. It’ s indeed a treat to watch the Oscar winners Robert D Niro and Anne Hathway sharing screenspace. The scenes where De Niro is amazed at how the young people in the office have achieved success at such a young age while the youngsters admire De Niro for his ideal nature, are laudable. It’s mutual respect here. An elderly person might view a thing in a different perspective than the younger person. This generation clash is beautifully handled in this film.

Robert D Niro is surely the lovable gentleman with all the required qualities for an intern. Mr. Amiable-that’s what he is! His exemplary optimism will surely strike the right chord with you. The plot has the required maturity and it strikes the right chord because of D Niro. After watching the film you will surely feel that D Niro could have become the CEO of the company. Hathway is at her best; she enacts the role of a scrupulous and an obsessive owner of a company perfectly. As a professional mom, she fits to the T. Her smile is endearing. But why the show about feminism in this film? However, all new managers of start ups who are quite successful should not miss this film. You can get the feel-good element of a father-daughter bond after watching this film. The story line is good and the characters are well-etched. Platonic love in friendship is a commendable virtue. The lead stars of the film shares this friendship. Di Nero teaches a few nice things to Hathway in a subtle way and how she imbibes them is indeed told nicely. Today’s society is quite different from yesterday’s and this is effectively shown in this flick. The thoughts of director Nancy Meyar are sprinkled throughout the film. Humour is subtly used to analyze the gender equations and their evolution in the past 5 decades.

Verdict: Too sweet a movie for words.
