Plot

Jon Martello is a man of his league. A modern Don Juan, Jon Martello loves to live on the edge. However, he finds satisfaction, of all things, in watching pornography on the computer. However, Jon is still not satisfied, and wants something more, until he meets two women, who change his approach to life forever.

Star Performances

Joseph Gordon Levitt has donned many hats for this film. Yet, he excels on each front [from director to actor] without a sweat. Also, extra marks to him for depicting a sensitive issue in a likable manner.

Actors Julianne Moore and Scarlett Johansson have also done a brilliant job as Esther and Barbara respectively.

Analysis

Don Juan is a Spanish character known for his casanova attitude towards life. Actor Joseph Gordon Levitt decided to pay tribute to his character in his sweet way, and what a way that was!

‘Don Jon’ is not your regular rom-com. It should be a dark comedy that takes potshots at modern relationships in the crudest way imaginable. It explores every emotion, and yet forces the teens, as well as the middle-aged couples about the way they are heading.

The makers should have put a warning beforehand: This film is NOT for the faint-hearted! Anyone, who has a problem with profanity, or graphic scenes, should skip this film at once. However, if you are ready to face the truth, no matter how awkward you feel, or how disturbing it looks, just go ahead!

Joseph Gordon Levitt, through his character of Don Jon, has hit it out of the park. It took almost 5 years to bring the idea to the screen, but he shows the struggles of a modern man in finding the right person, without being too preachy or over the top. He is provided solid support by Julianne Moore, who is playing the role of a middle-aged student Esther, and Scarlett Johansson, who plays the role of Barbara Sugarman. The scenes involving Don Jon’s ‘favorite pastime’ might irk some, and some of the transitions also are not very up to the mark. However, if you are ready to ignore this, ‘Don Jon’ is the surprise package that most of the movie buffs would be impressed with!
