This story is adapted from a book, 'Big Sur,' by Jack Kerouac.

PLOT: After the recent success of his book, On The Road, Jack Kerouac feels confined due to the sudden publicity and popularity. He wants a cessation to this feeling. So he stays in his cabin in Big Sur all alone. But due to the loneliness, he gets back to the city and consumes alcohol heavily. Meanwhile, he gets into a relationship with his friend Josh Lucas's mistress, Kate Bosworth Kate Bosworth is an actress and model hailing from >> Read More... . When he consumed too much of alcohol, he introduces her to Josh's wife and humiliates Josh. But later due to the confusion and changes in himself, it leads to nervous breakdown.

ANALYSIS: Polish's direction and David Mullen's cinematography are a major plus for the movie. The way they utilize and capture the scenic views, such as the fog, the redwoods, gushing waves, etc. are so touching. The visuals are so beautiful, and that make us yearn for reaching those places. The director strongly portrayed the effects of alcohol, depression and the inner turmoil.

STAR PERFORMANCES: Balthazar Getty and Anthony Edward do a supportive role. They come as Jack's alcoholic friends. Though they are present in many scenes, they do not overshadow the scene's real purpose, to express Jack's loneliness. Josh Lucas's performance as a caring friend was so beautiful. In one scene, when Josh leans on Jack's shoulder, it was so beautiful that we can feel the care and affection around them.

WHAT'S THERE? This film is more poetic, rather than a normal movie. Jack's emotions are depicted beautifully with the exotic locations in his surroundings. The music score by Chris Douridas gives a feel for the movie; that acts as a slow poison to Jack.

WHAT'S NOT THERE? The voice-over failed to give us the realistic feel. The scenes were not expressive, as it is mentioned in the book. The scenes are neither developed nor altered; rather they are used as it is.

VERDICT: A picture of deep sorrow with beautiful aspects.
