Shahid Mallya
stepped into Bollywood with the hit musical album “
Mausam
” in 2011. The film featured
Shahid Kapoor
and
Sonam Kapoor
. The song Rabba Mai Toh Mar Gaya Oye had recognized the singer and given him the dream break in the Bollywood music industry. The singer is back with a couple of songs in the upcoming film
Udta Punjab
that stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor,
Alia Bhatt
and
Diljit Dosanjh
in prime roles. The singer thanks, music composer
Pritam Chakraborty
for launching him after eight years of struggle. He remembers how he used to win all the music competitions at school and college levels and how his parents encouraged him to become a playback singer, which eventually got him to the City of Dreams, Mumbai. Through a mutual friend, he met Pritam and after several months he spoke to the singer for recording the tracks of Mausam. Pankaj Kapoor had appreciated his work as well. When his cinema career was at a low phase, Shahid Mallya assisted singers, music composers and composed music for television serials as well. He was trained by his father, who assisted Mohammad Rafi. Shahid Mallya further expresses that a film’s success will never affect the life and performance of a singer. If the music reaches the audience, the singers will stay and so will the songs - no matter how the movie does at the box office. The singer is presently working on Electro Sufi, which is an approach to the genre Sufi, and is a fusion technique. This has kept him quite busy apart from the film recordings and hence he is not planning to work on any music album at the moment.
