It is always a dilemma for directors when it comes to choosing between the aesthetic of their script or the reception of the audience. Sometimes, the audience might not receive the movie, as well as the directors, expect them to. Most of the Tamil audiences want to see a happy ending as they were used to it ever since the dawn of Tamil cinema. Hence, willingly or unwillingly, directors are forced to redo some of their climax scenes to suit the audience’s wish. Here are some of the movies which had two different climaxes.

1. Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu

On confronting them, one of the villains reveals that he had buried her alive. Kamal reaches her and tries to dig her out of the ground. In the original climax, it shows that Jyothika had died. But in the other one, she has somehow survived the burial, and Kamal revives her.

2. Kireedam

' is a police constable, and Ajith Kumar Ajith Kumar is a prominent Tamil film actor, model >> Read More... is his son, who is trying for the police job. The entire family is being targeted by a group of villains. RajKiran wants Ajith to be a police officer. But, Ajith is forced to take up arms and kill the villains himself. Unwillingly, he becomes notorious as the savior of the local people. In the original climax, Ajith couldn’t become a police officer, and the movie ends with his bloodred murder. But the alternate climax ends with the court forgiving him by justifying his actions and rewards him with a police inspector job.

3. Kabali

In India, the movie ends in a question. After defeating the villain, Rajni is at a celebration. One of the previous drug addicts, who is in rehabilitation now, sneaks into the function with a gun. The movie closes with a gunshot and leaves it to the audience. But, in Malaysia, there is an alternate climax where Rajni surrenders to the Malaysian police yet again for his crimes. This change was to pay respect to the Malaysian people and their fans.

4. Kaakha Kaakha

As a police action movie, this is the movie that tweaked Suriya’s performance. Just to enrage him, the villain stabs Jyothika, and she dies in Suriya’s arms. The villain couldn’t escape from his inevitable death from Suriya’s avenge. But, there is an alternate climax where the villain inflicts only a small wound in Jyothika’s hand and she is alive.

5. Kumki

A tragic story is always a risk. As a backup, the Kumki team has shot three different climaxes, one of which had a positive ending. Three of the girls stay on the bus instead of going to lunch. The protesters burn the bus regardless of the people inside. In the original climax, there is a disturbing image of the three girls’ bodies burnt. The alternate climax shows that the girls have survived the fire.

8. Rowthiram

Rowthiram is an action movie with one of the best action sequences. Since this scene was gruesome to most audiences, a modified version that eliminated the killing parts was released later.

9. Kadhalar Dhinam

10. Mugavaree

Sadness is the theme of this movie. With the heart crutching sadness spread everywhere in this movie, including the climax, the audience felt a need for relief from the sadness, especially in the climax. Ajith has one goal in this movie; to become a music director. In the original climax, he gives up his passion and works for the welfare of his family. He even forgoes his love interest, Jyothika. Later the movie was changed to where, after a few years, Ajith marries Jyothika, reignites his passion and works as a music director.
