Science-fiction, also called as sci-fi movies, deals with the stories of conflicts involving science and technology. When science and technology are combined with humans, playing with human emotions in the futuristic world turns into a perfect SCI-FI horror movie. The special effects technology deals with the horror elements given a seat edge feeling to the audience. This genre of sci-fi horror is rarely seen in the South Indian industries when compared to Hollywood.

1. Enthiran /Robo 2.0 - Tamil/Telugu

Enthiran and Robo 2.0 in which Rajinikanth starred are perfect examples for top sci-fi horror movies the in recent times. It is the best example that depicts how science and technology are at war with human emotions in the real world. It deals with how a splendid scientist creates a humanoid robot to protect humankind, but things go awry when human emotions are programmed into it and its own inner turmoil causes the robot to switch sides. The movie Robo 2.0 shows how a massive powered robot takes revenge on humans. This movie was directed by Shankar.

2. 9 – Malayalam

9 is a Malayalam movie starring Prithviraj and Mamta Mohandas, directed by Jenuse Mohamed. 9 is an excellent movie of the last decade. This film gives you a spine-chilling experience. The director succeeded to the cent percent in instilling emotions to the viewers of the movie to a great extent. The story is about nine days on the Earth with no power, no gadgets, and no light. A red comet ignores earth, bringing about humankind losing control. Then, what about the human beings.? A must-watch on the list.

3. Tik Tik Tik - Tamil

"Tik Tik Tik" is a must-watch sci-fi horror film on this list with thrilling elements. This Tamil film was directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan, starring Jayam Ravi, Nivetha Pethuraj and many more talented artists. It was inspired by 1998’s Armageddon, an American science fiction film directed by Michael Bay. The plot revolves around the DSD team finding out that an asteroid that will hit the earth in seven days, and the lives of four crore people in and around Chennai is in trouble. The remaining film revolves around finding the solutions to the consequences.

4. Taxiwala – Telugu

Taxiwala is a 2019 released Telugu film directed by Rahul Sankrityan starring Vijay Deverakonda. Are you wondering why this movie is on this list? Taxiwala's movie revolves around a human soul and the technology related to that. The thrilling experiments on how to extract a human soul while it has a life fill us with horror along with comedy. This movie is a combination of various genres.

5. Ambuli – Tamil

The Sci-fi movie ‘Ambuli’ was directed by Hari Shankar and Hareesh Narayan. The word Ambuli, when translated, refers to a full moon. This film is highly appreciated though it didn’t perform well in theatres. The film Ambuli is a scientific mystery-horror thriller film presented the first 3D digital stereoscopic technology in a Tamil film. After this movie, many Tamil movies started using this technology.

6. Srivalli – Telugu

"Srivalli" is a Telugu first-ever full-length sci-fi film written and directed by the legendary Vijayendra Prasad who also wrote Bahubali. This is movie that revolves around Srivalli, a neuroscientist. She undergoes an experiment about brain wave simulation. The consequences faced by her in losing track of the past and the present due to simulation is the rest of the story.

7. Naani – Kannada

Nanni translates to the state of a matter, conformity with fact, truth, or reality. “Nanni” was one of the well-made sci-fi movies with an aspect of advancement of technology in the medical field nowadays with an addition of horror screenplay elements. The story revolves around the IVF process and how it holds various secrets of the society.

8. Chatur Mukham– Malayalam

It was a 2021 released sci-fi techno horror film which gives you the best thrilling and horror experience. The screenplay of this movie gives us a fresh feeling. The story is about events taking place in the life of a phone addict and socially ill person when she purchases a new phone. Lady superstar of Mollywood, Manju Warrier’s acting hooks us to the screen.

9. Iru Mugan – Tamil

Iru Mugan is a science fiction horror thriller film in Tamil released in 2016. The top roles of this movie were played by Vikram, Nayanthara and Nithya Menon. This is a science and technology-based horror-thriller that gives us a superbly fine experience till the end.

10. Red Rain – Malayalam

"Red Rain" is a Malayalam language sci-fi horror film released in 2013. This movie was based on real-life incidents that occurred in the Wayanad region of the Malabar coast in Kerala. The story revolves around a red rainfall which was observed in Kerala from July 23, 2001 to September 25, 2001 and from November 15, 2012 to December 27, 2012, and how scientists researching mysterious events were depicted in the movie.
