Sudhakar Vinukonda

Sudhakar Vinukonda is a young Indian filmmaker, producer, and writer in the Telugu Film Industry, which is popularly known as Tollywood. Vinukonda was born and brought up in Hyderabad, now the de jure capital of Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad continues to be his current city. With just one film in his bag, Sudhakar is a relatively new director in the Tollywood industry. His directorial venture started with the Telugu movie Iddaram, which hit the silver screens on 8th July 2016. The film also marked his debut as a film producer.

In an era where most directors choose a mainstream commercial script for a grand debut, Sudhakar took a bold step and embarked on the road less taken, by making a unique film with fresh content. Iddaram, besides being a romantic thriller, also raises issues like the disadvantages of early marriage, and subtly touches upon the lives in orphanages. Vinukodan also owns a production company called Javan and Caspian International. Thus, his first movie was produced under the banner of his own production house.

However, being new in the industry, Sudhakar did not have plenty of resources, and hence Iddaranwas a low budget movie shot at locations like Hyderabad, Bidar, Vizag, and Machilipatnam. The film managed to do a good business at the box office, even though it earned mixed response from the critics. While some appreciated Sudhakar's boldness to experiment, others criticized the film's weak plot and sidelining of the supporting characters in the movie, thus losing the director's grip in the art of storytelling.

Not only did Iddaranserve as Sudhakar's directorial debut and the first project of his production house, but it also marked his debut as a scriptwriter. Sudhakaran weaved the entire story himself, constructing plots, rewriting and framing climaxes. However, film critics reviewed his scriptwriting skills as a "little weak," generally expected from a beginner in the industry. At the same time, they hailed him as a promising newcomer. After the success of his first film, Sudhakar started working for his next directorial venture pretty soon.
