T.V.Rathinam birth name was Tenkasi Vallinayagam Rathinam. She was born in 1930 origin at Tenkasi, Madras Presidency, India. Tenkasi is in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, which was considered as one of the largest municipalities, and which is located in Western Ghats, India. The Madras Presidency which is also known as ‘Madras Province’ includes many states of India, in which the Tamil Nadu is one of them, and it had its capital as Madras in winter. British India was the administrative unit of the territories of India. She is very well known for her songs in the Tamil language . By occupation, she is a Tamil singer. She sings as a playback singer and also composes Indian classical music.

She started singing at the age of 7, under her guru ‘Ramalinga Zachary.’ Later, she continued her training under Ramnad Krishnan and Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar. During her child age, she became a drama and a film artist. When she was 10, she acted in many acts like Bhakta Chatham, Kannagi which was for Madras United Artistes and Jupiter Pictures. Later, she moved to Tamil Film Industry. She became popular by working with many famous music directors of that era. She became famous in the 1940s and 1950s with her songs, which were in Miss Malini (1947) made by the Gemini Studios. She used to sing a variety of challenging songs. She gave her first concert in Sri Lanka . G.Ramanathan had chosen her to pair him as a female singer. Through a rare chance, she sang in Ponmudi by Modern Theatres.

She sang for many music composers like S.Rajeshwara Rao, C.S.Jayaraman, T.R.Pappa and much more. She also sang for a Hindi film music director O.P.Nayyar . As a playback singer, she sang not only solo songs ,but also duets with T.A.Mothi, G.Ramanathan, K.R.Ramaswamy and many others. She also sang duets with female playback singers like P.Leela, G.Kasthoori, P.Suseela, and many others. There are many films in which she sang songs. Most of her songs were in the movies which released during the 1940s and 1950s. That is the reason she became more famous during that period. Most of the songs were in the Tamil language. She also sang in Kannada, Malayalam languages. Some of the Tamil films are Miss Malini (1947), Vedhala Ulagam (1949), and much more. She also sang in Malayalam film Avar Unarunnu (1956) and also in Kannada film Mandala Thedi (1955). Her passion towards singing and music was depicted by her work.
